GTC EMS Education Initiatives

EMS Initial Education Programs

The Georgia Trauma Commission’s initial EMS education programs focus on workforce development and strengthening the pipeline of new providers entering the profession. These programs support high-quality EMR, EMT, and AEMT training across Georgia with an emphasis on access, sustainability, and student success, particularly in rural and underserved communities. By reducing financial and logistical barriers to initial education, GTC helps ensure communities can recruit, train, and retain the EMS workforce needed to support Georgia’s trauma system. To support this work, GTC offers three grant pathways: Emergency Medical Responder courses, EMT and AEMT courses with 12 or more students, and EMT and AEMT micro grants designed for smaller classes with 6 to 11 students.

EMS Continuing Education Programs

GTC’s continuing education programs are driven by data and informed by regional and provider feedback. Training priorities are guided by the statewide EMS Educational Needs Assessment, Regional Trauma Advisory Committees, trauma system performance data, and direct input from front-line providers. This ensures continuing education is relevant, targeted, and responsive to real-world needs. Through hands-on, scenario-based training such as simulation, trauma courses, leadership development, and specialty education, GTC supports ongoing clinical competency, system coordination, and improved trauma outcomes across all regions of Georgia.
